A HUNDRED PATHWAYS

This is a whakatauki (proverb) from Ngati Kahungunu’s Heretaunga area.  It is meaningful for all of us; for all cultures, for all within the Eastern and Central region and for those who will be coming to Heretaunga from other community trusts.

The proverb describes the geographical nature of the host region.  It aptly captures something of the spirit of the people whom we serve, the resilience they demonstrate in finding their own pathways and solutions.  It also captures generosity of spirit and the skills required to consistently serve others and the strategic contribution this makes to New Zealand  society.

These are the key themes and topics for the 2010 Combined Community Trusts’ Conference; supporting a diverse voluntary sector to develop itself and retain relevance in the face of a changing population, changes to voluntarism in the contemporary economic climate and current strategic issues facing the philanthropic sector.
